What happens to your resume and email

Last updated August 30, 2026

The short version

We use your resume to produce the review you requested. The uploaded file is temporary, but its extracted text is sent to our AI provider, Groq, for processing. We require an email address to unlock the full review. Joining marketing emails is a separate, optional choice.

Information we collect

  • Your resume file and its extracted text when you request a roast.
  • Your email address when you unlock the full results or contact us.
  • Your marketing choice when you decide whether to receive resume tips and product updates.
  • Aggregate site activity such as a page view, CTA click, upload start, referring source category, current path, and landing path. These events are stored as daily totals. Our first-party analytics do not assign a visitor or session ID and do not include your resume or email.
  • Operational logs that our hosting and security infrastructure may create, such as an IP address, request time, browser information, or error details.

How a resume roast is processed

  1. Your browser sends the file to our application over HTTPS.
  2. Our server extracts readable text from supported PDF or DOCX files.
  3. The extracted text is sent to Groq to generate the requested feedback.
  4. Our temporary copy of the uploaded file is deleted after the request finishes.

Groq states that inference data is generally not retained by default, while limited data may be retained for up to 30 days for reliability or abuse monitoring unless Zero Data Retention is enabled for the account. We do not claim that our account has Zero Data Retention enabled. Read Groq's current data documentation for the provider's terms.

Do not upload highly sensitive information that is unnecessary for a resume review, such as a Social Security number, banking information, medical records, account passwords, or a full street address.

Email and marketing

We store the email used to unlock your results so we can operate the service, prevent abuse, and respond to a request about your data. We send an address to EmailOctopus only when you actively select the optional marketing checkbox. You can unsubscribe from those messages at any time using the link in an email.

Why we use this information

  • Provide and protect the resume-review service.
  • Measure whether useful pages lead people to the tool, using non-identifying daily totals.
  • Diagnose reliability and security problems.
  • Send optional marketing only when you choose it.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run the site:

  • Groq processes extracted resume text for AI inference.
  • Render hosts the application and database.
  • EmailOctopus handles optional marketing subscriptions.

We do not sell your personal information.

Retention and deletion

Temporary resume files are removed after processing. Email addresses are kept while reasonably needed to operate the service, meet legal obligations, or until a valid deletion request is completed. Aggregate analytics are retained as daily counts rather than visitor-level histories. Providers may retain limited information under their own policies and legal obligations.

To ask what personal information we hold, correct it, or request deletion, email support@roastmyresume.com. We may need to verify that the address belongs to you.

Security and children

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet service can promise perfect security. The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the product or its providers change. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Questions can be sent to support@roastmyresume.com.
